DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DINK SHOT/DINKING AND DROP SHOT

Pickleball players usually mix up the terms “drop” and “drop shot,” which is a basic mistake. Both shots are light, but they have different goals. Knowing the differences will help you use each shot properly during gameplay.

In order to get from the backcourt up to the NVZ line when the opposing team is already up at the NVZ line, you must hit a drop shot off the bounce from close to the baseline or in the transition zone (back half of the court).

On the other side, a drop shot happens when one team is positioned at the baseline while the other team is set at the NVZ line. The team that is already at the NVZ line makes the decision to hit a drop shot into the kitchen, allowing the opposing team to recover the shot quickly from the baseline.
